Why You Should Never Argue With An Idiot
Why do people argue? It’s not because they enjoy it, that’s for sure. People argue because they feel passionate about something and want to convince others to see their point of view. Of course, there are people who argue just for the sake of it – but we’ll leave those strange people out of this article!
While it can be therapeutic to let off some steam by having a good old argument, you should always choose your opponent wisely. There are some people who you should never waste your breath on – and we’re calling them out in this article!
6 reasons why you shouldn’t argue with a fool
1. You’ll never win
This should be obvious, but it’s worth stating anyway. You’re never going to win an argument with someone incapable of seeing another point of view. If they were open to reason, you wouldn’t be arguing in the first place! So save your breath and walk away.
2. It’s a waste of time
Even if by some miracle you did manage to win the argument, what would it achieve? The other person isn’t going to suddenly see the error of their ways and have a total change of heart. So why bother?
You also won’t get much out of the exchange yourself. If your opponent truly is a moron, then there’s very little you’ll be able to learn from them.
3. People won’t be able to tell who the idiot is
You’ve probably heard the famous saying, “Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.” It’s true! If you stoop to their level and start arguing, people won’t be able to tell who the real idiot is.
4. It could be dangerous
Some people, particularly those who lack the mental capacity to win their disputes with words, often resort to violence. This is common and something you’ll more than likely encounter if you argue with a fool.
Every day we hear stories of arguments that got out of control and turned fatal. If you know the person with whom you’re arguing has a violent streak, it’s probably best to skip that argument.
5. It wouldn’t be a fair fight
The truth is if you’re arguing with someone incapable of holding their own mentally and logically, then this isn’t a fair fight. You wouldn’t, after all, get any prizes for winning an argument against a child. This is pretty much the same thing.
Instead, you might come off as a bully.
6. You’ll only frustrate yourself
Stupidity is frustrating! So, too, is trying to get an idiot to see reason when they’re clearly in the wrong. You’ll leave that argument feeling annoyed, not only because you’ll have gotten nowhere, but because you’ll have wasted valuable time you can never get back.
Conclusion
Sometimes arguing is inevitable, but not every opponent is a worthy one. When you sense an argument brewing with an idiot, think long and hard about whether or not getting into it will yield any positive results. Chances are, it won’t. All you’ll end up doing is wasting your precious time and ruining your day.
Always remember the famous quote by Mark Twain: “Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”
