Well, that filth (including animal feces, mind you) is what clings to your shoes, and that’s what you’ll be spreading all around your house. Not exactly hygienic or healthy, especially if you have young children at home who crawl around on the floor.

Do you have hardwood floors, carpet, or tile? No matter the type of flooring you have, wearing shoes indoors will damage them over time. Shoes with abrasive soles can scratch hardwood floors, while high heels can dent them and leave marks on tile.
You’re not safe with carpets, either. Shoes with hard bottoms will wear your carpets down, making them threadbare and much less fluffy.
Even if you don’t see the damage right away, it will accumulate.

Slippers are usually softer, both inside and out, so they won’t cause the same damage that regular shoes do, and your feet will still feel snug.
